Which Grind Size to Choose?

Choosing the right grind size simply depends on how you make your coffee at home - with a machine, a filter, or just a pan and a channi.

Use this guide to find what feels familiar to your routine.
Channi

Brew Using: Pan + Channi / cloth filter
Grind Size: Medium-coarse

This is the easiest way to make coffee — no equipment needed. Just boil water in a pan, add coffee, let it sit and strain using a channi.

Espresso

Brew Using: Espresso machines
Grind Size: fine

Designed for machines that push hot water through coffee under pressure and produces a concentrated, rich shot with a strong aroma.

Moka pot

Brew Using: Stove-top Moka pot
Grind:  Medium Fine (not as fine as espresso)

Strong, bold coffee brewed on the stove. Perfect for those who enjoy intense flavors without  an espresso machine.

South Indian Filter

Brew Using: Traditional South Indian coffee filter
Grind Size: Fine to medium-fine

Made for slow dripping and strong decoction. Ideal if you enjoy classic filter coffee with milk — rich, comforting, and familiar.

Aeropress

Brew Using: Aeropress
Grind: Medium-fine

Quick to brew and easy to carry. Great if you like experimenting but still want a smooth, balanced cup.

Pour Over

Brew Using: V60, Kalita, Chemex, Origami Dripper
Grind Size: Medium

Pour hot water slowly, take your time, and let the flavors open up gently.

French Press

Brew Using: French press
Grind Size: Coarse

Add coffee, pour hot water, wait a few minutes, press and pour. Simple, forgiving, and great if you enjoy a full-bodied cup.

Cold Brew

Brew Using: Cold Brew Maker/Glass Container & Cloth Filter or Channi
Grind Size: Extra coarse

Steep coffee in cold water for 12–18 hours.
Smooth, low acidity, and easy on the stomach — especially in warmer weather.

Whole Beans

Best for: Grinding at home for preferred brewing method

Choose this if you enjoy grinding fresh before brewing.
It gives you more control and the freshest aroma.

Still Not Sure?

If you don’t have any equipment, Channi is the easiest place to start.
